A week in the Isle of Wight – Day 5 – Medina Park

Today we thought we’d stay closer to home and off the back of the popular Carisbrooke Castle we decided to visit Appuldurcombe House. It looked great on the website, although a ‘shell’ of a house, apparently it’s great on the outside and is set in grounds designed by Capability Brown. It also has tractor rides and an Owl & Falconry centre. We thought it would be just the low key, easy entertainment we were looking for. But it’s closed until 1 April. Undeterred we decided to go to Isle Jump, we’d been told by a reliable source that we should have visited there instead of Sandown Pier the other day so off we headed to Newport. On arrival we realised Isle Jump is actually in Sandown. Apparently it was just one of those days, so finally we gave in and ended up at JR Zone, a place we’d considered previously on a rainy day but never actually visited.

JR Zone is actually a great soft play centre based on the Medina Industrial estate in Newport. Not only do they have great play facilities and an ok cafe it’s worth checking out their website We spent a good 2 hours there reading papers while the kids ran around like crazy. Afterwards we took our picnic lunch across the road to the Medina Riverside Park which was really lovely and somewhere we’re planning on returning to for a longer visit.
